All-original 1968 SG Special in beautiful Cherry Red finish with the lovely vibrola tremolo! Lightweight at only 2,98 kg! This one is not only special in its name.... The guitar has '67/'68 transitional features and some exceptional rarities for the year like the Brazilian rosewood fretboard with insane figuring (check out that board!) and the double Black Bobbin P90's. Of course the guitar sports a 1-piece neck with no volute and the small headstock. The lightweight Honduras mahogany is the long-grain Belizian type that is the same what was used throughout the '50s. Original hardware and plastic parts. '66-early '68 style elongated block heel joint (probably the most stable neck joint of all). Beautiful rare 'butterfly' tuning keys that has those nice ornamentic design. Original electronics with untouched solder joints. Big ceramic disk caps with all four pots dated to '68. The original TPBR 8513 wraptail is nickel plated instead of chrome which dates it to pre-67 and was probably a factory left-over which is a nice addition.
It's a trip finding a '60's SG with no neck problems like breaks / repairs or tuning issues so this one is a true gem. She's absolutely clean with zero neck problems. Totally rock solid. Even with the vibrola it's close to impossible to drive this baby out of tune! This is the most solid and stable SG of the period that I've had the fortune to play. The guitar is so loud and resonant acoustically that it's like holding a fish that wants to jump out of your lap! Big bold woody hollow sound. It just doesn't get any better than this.
